Start collecting online donations with PayPal and win

What is PayPal?

More than 100,000 non-profit organisations around the globe, including Connecting Up Australia, rely on PayPal to process funds from donors, sponsors and supporters. In 2008 alone, PayPal helped non-profits raise more than US $850 million in online donations.

For non-for-profits, PayPal is a secure online payment service that enables you to receive donations online in as many as 19 currencies. You no longer have to wait for cheques to arrive and clear, and you don't need a merchant facility to start accepting credit card donations online.

For donors and supporters, PayPal is a more convenient way to donate online as they don’t have to keep re-entering financial information to support your cause.

Donors pay using their PayPal account, which draws money from their credit card, debit card or bank account. This allows donors to donate money to your cause easily and safely.

Why use PayPal to accept donations on your website?

If your organisation is already collecting donations online:

  • PayPal could increase your donations because donors don’t have to re-enter financial information each time they donate, thereby reducing abandonment rates.
  • PayPal gives you access to an Australian and international donor base, with over 5 million accounts in Australia and 193 million accounts globally across 190 markets.
  • Evidence has shown that using PayPal could help increase the size of the average donation while lowering donor acquisition costs compared to offline methods.

If your organisation is not collecting donations online:

  • PayPal instantly allows you to accept payments using credit/debit cards, bank balances or PayPal stored balances.
  • You do not need a merchant or credit card facility to accept PayPal.
  • There are no set up costs with PayPal, or ongoing account keeping fees. You simply pay per transaction.
  • PayPals reduces online security risks because it stores the end-customer’s financial data. Non-profits never have to worry about Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance or the security risks typically associated with storing customers’ financial information.

It’s easy to set up.
You can start receiving donations on your website in the amount of time it takes to copy and paste a PayPal “Donate” button (in HTML) onto your website.  When donors click donate, they will be directed to PayPal to log into their account. They can then enter the amount and confirm their donation securely. Once completed, they are redirected back to your website.

The first 20 non-profits to sign up for a PayPal account via Connecting Up Australia’s referral program will be entered into a draw to win one of two iPod Touch’s . To enter sign up now
