Testimonial Winner - West Lakes Seniors Computer Club

The Westlake’s Seniors Computer Club was founded in January 2000 by a handful of local residents who had the vision to establish a computer club where seniors and seniors with disabilities could learn to use and enjoy technology in a rapidly changing society. Our current membership is 540, and we have had 1,500 seniors pass though our books since our inauguration.
West Lakes Senior Club
In October 2007 we received a wonderful Microsoft donation through DonorTec of 25 copies of Windows Vista, 25 copies of Office Professional 2007, 2 copies of Expression Studio and 1 copy of Expression Web.  The value of this very important donation was $26,675.

In addition to the Microsoft donation we also received a donation from CISCO of a CE 500 24 port Ethernet Switch Box, valued at over $800.

Because of the very generous Microsoft donation we can now offer our members classes in both Windows XP and Vista.  The donation from CISCO allowed us to network our 18 computers which are divided into two rooms with nine computers in each.

These valuable donations were extremely appreciated by our club and we look forward to continued involvement with DonorTec.

One good Promotion Deserves Another

We here at DonorTec are very much aware of a real need for ICT improvement and capacity building throughout the non-profit sector. We are also very wary of the constant and insipid advertisements bombarding the general public through various forms of media advising their technology products are of the best quality, the cheapest and cannot be undersold. Expensive advertisement campaigns often work simply due to the repetitiveness and insistency of their message. Products simply remain at the forefront of people’s minds and the tips of our tongues.

Our message is simple: Before you go anywhere, go to DonorTec.

We cannot compete with commercial resellers or large scale advertisement campaigns promoting products at competitive prices, but with your help we do not have to. We have found through experience that most organisations who hear about DonorTec have been referred to us by people who have had a positive experience or by people who have seen a flier at a conference which they though deserved further investigation.

Ultimately we would like to see all smaller non-profits functioning on the same level as many of their corporate associates but at present DonorTec estimates that at least 8 out of 10 non-profit organisations out there, including some of which your board members may even be associated with are not accessing the program. We believe all non-profits should all be accessing the program for IT donations of the very latest software and hardware – a huge opportunity to take up the generosity of this global corporate giving initiative.

The key to the future of DonorTec is indeed in your hands. We need your assistance and help of organisations like yours who can promote us via your own methods such as websites, magazines, e-newsletters and the like to help ensure DonorTec’s longevity. To this end we have recently added a link on our website http://www.donortec.com.au/content/help-us-promote for organisations just like yours wishing to promote us which contains our logo, web banners and information about how we can take your organisation in to the age of technology.

Worth more than money and expensive advertisement campaigns is the type of community spirit and good will that DonorTec relies on to build its profile and expand the benefits of the program within the non-profit sector. Organisations like yours assisting in any way possible are the reason that Australia already has the highest penetration of all the global country partners including the UK and why DonorTec will continue to flourish into the future.

Use Online Surveys to Get the Feedback You Need

What do your constituents think about your programs and services? What kinds of activities are your donors likely to fund? Should your organization initiate a new program?

Rather than resort to using telepathic powers or mind reading, an online survey is a powerful research tool that can deliver the feedback you need. Paper-based surveys are often too costly and time-consuming to administer, but online surveys make it easy for any organization to get feedback on the cheap.

Application service providers (ASP) supply the software for most online survey tools, so you won't need to install anything on your computer. Simply use your Web browser to access the tool's control panel where you can easily create a survey and customize your layout.

Once you've created your survey, send e-mail invitations to respondents asking them to take your survey. Or, you can post a link to the survey on your Web site. To get the most responses, both methods can be used in tandem.

Survey tools automatically collect and tally responses in "real-time," which means you can watch the results come in as they're being submitted. Results are often organized and presented graphically using various charts and tables (some tools can even produce reports based on the survey results). Share the results with members of your staff, and even with survey respondents.

Innovator of the Year

If you’re receiving this you have supported the work of Connecting Up Australia (formerly known as Community Information Strategies Australia - CISA) at some time over the past 27 years.  Many of you may remember purchasing the first print directory of community services in South Australia, but are now more familiar with the online version of this directory known as “Infosearch”. Furthermore most South Australians who have ever accessed the internet will be aware of Eventspool, South Australia’s primary source for event information from sausage sizzles to rock concerts.

Similarly if you are reading this article right now you are no doubt aware of Connecting Up Australia’s success on a national level with the introduction of the DonorTec Program, which has saved the non-profit sector upwards of $27 million since its inception in 2007.

For a technology based donations program like DonorTec to succeed not only must there be a dedicated team of highly skilled and motivated individuals who pride themselves on making a difference, but they must be led by someone who possesses integrity, forethought, strategic direction and a genuine interest in the needs of the non-profit sector. What they need is an innovator.

Lucky for us here at DonorTec we have just received confirmation that Doug Jacquier, Connecting Up Australia’s leader for the past 8 years, is indeed an innovator.
