Southern Women’s group

The Southern Women’s Group aims to:

  • Create a safe, non-institutionalised environment for women and children that is conducive to their emotional and physical well-being.
  • Inform and empower women and children to make active decisions about their lives and encourage them to seek alternatives and options.
  • Work in partnership with other appropriate support services to ensure that any woman experiencing domestic violence can get the support she needs to escape domestic violence.
  • Advocate on behalf of women and children experiencing domestic violence, ensuring they have access to resources and can live their lives safe and free from fear.
  • Liaise with all appropriate services
  • Raise awareness in the community, all areas of government and other services about all issues affecting women including issues of mental and physical health, quality of life and domestic violence and the impact it has on women and children.

The Women's Resource Centre has a range of services for women and children to use. Their computers have up to date software and broadband internet access and training. They also have a library, production and distribution of a bi-monthly newsletter SCREECH, photocopying and a friendly meeting space. They run a regular music/art drop in on Thursday afternoons 1-3pm for cake, tea and coffee, friends, music, singing, stories, art and craft...
