Putting the spotlight on nonprofit engine rooms - the FABO awards launch

Spotlight on non-profit engine rooms:

FABO Awards Launch

When we come to acknowledge the contribution of Australia’s non-profit organisations in our society, we can too easily forget about the people that work behind the scenes to make these organisations as good as they are.

In order to publicly appreciate the amazing people who work in the back offices, Matrix on Board* has initiated the Finance, Administration and Back Offices (FABO) awards.

“We work with back office people in not for profit organisations across the country and we know that they are the backbone; without them, the work of so many organisations would grind to a halt.

The FABO Awards were conceived as a way of raising the profile and showcasing good examples of the unsexy but critical financial management and administration work that allows our not for profit sector to make a different to the lives of so many people,”  said Morri Young, Director of Matrix on Board.

The FABOs celebrate the contribution of the people who are the sentinels of the financial, administration, IT and HR systems in Australian non-profits.  They rarely are acknowledged with Orders of Australia, high salaries, Conferences and special events, but they are the quiet achievers. They ensure that procedures are followed, wages are paid, IT systems secured.

The FABOs are the one day of the year, when the heroes of the engine rooms can step forward and be honoured by our community.

On Thursday 24 June 2010 at a ceremony at Etihad Stadium, the FABO awards were officially launched by  Lily D’Ambrosio MP, Victorian Minister for Community Development.  The Minister said she was thrilled by this initiative that “encourages excellence in the back office to free up non-profits to deliver the impactful front end services.”

The FABO awards cover 10 categories with sponsors from both commercial and non-profit organisations.
