Cisco 48-Port LAN Lite Ethernet Switch

The WS-C2960-48TT-S is one of the Catalyst 2960 series fixed-configuration switches offering 10/100 Fast Ethernet and 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity with LAN services for small branch office networks. The 48TT-S model provides:

• Forty-eight Ethernet 10/100 Base-T ports for desktop connectivity
• Two 10/100/1000 Ethernet uplink ports

The LAN Lite feature set provides entry-level security, quality of service (QoS), and availability capabilities while lowering the total cost of network ownership.

A similar switch, the WS-C-2960-48TT-L (G-42931,) provides more advanced features but at a higher cost of ownership. See the Cisco Web site for a comparison in PDF form.

The Cisco Identity-Based Networking Services (IBNS) solution provides authentication, access control, and security policy administration to secure network connectivity and resources.

There are two options for switch management: the Windows-based Cisco Network Assistant, available at no cost from the Cisco Web site, http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps5931/index.html and SNMP network-management platforms such as the CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution.
